A youthful Barcelona side sealed their passage to the Copa del Rey final with a 1-1 draw at Valencia.
Gary
Neville’s men also put out a rotated XI, but still took the lead
through Alvaro Negredo’s first-half goal. Substitute Wilfrid Kaptoum
equalised for Barca late on but by then the comprehensive aggregate
victory was already certain.
The draw means that Luis
Enrique’s Barcelona extended their unbeaten run to 29 games, beating the
record of Pep Guardiola’s side from 2011. It will be a sixth
Copa del Rey final in eight years and ninth semi-final in the last ten
for Barcelona, who now must wait until tomorrow night for confirmation
that Sevilla will be joining them.
The venue for the
final is, as ever, a contentious subject with Real Madrid refusing to
let the Bernabeu (the most logical location) be used to host.
